Electrochemical Synthesis of Sultone Derivatives via Dehydrogenative C–O Bond Formation

Yasuyuki and Kotaro’s chemitsry has been published in Org. Lett.! The paper provides that electrochemical oxidation of sulfonyl chlorides during (or after) hydrolysis forms C-O bonds to afford sultones. Control experiments and DFT calculations suggest that the reaction proceeds via radical species generated by the electrochemical oxidation of the sulfonates or sulfonic acids.
